- Picardy is a former province of France, with its capital at Amiens. It comprises Vermandois, Amiénois, Valois, Santerre, Ponthieu, Boulannais, and Thiér-ache. occupied by King Philippe Auguste in 1185, the region was definitively united to the crown in 1477. Picardy is situated in the Paris basin, between the Canche, Oise, Béthune, and Thérain Rivers, and is bordered by the English Channel and normandy. It is still an agricultural region, with various industries. During World War I (1914-18), a number of important battles took place in Picardy (Somme, Montdidier).
